Important Public Notice: Transition to Knox Boxes for Emergency Access

Dear Residents and Business Owners of Norton Shores,

The Norton Shores Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau would like to inform you of an important update regarding our emergency access lockbox system.

📅 Key Deadline: December 31, 2026

As of December 31, 2026, the Supra BT-Smart Key Vault system will reach its end-of-life and will no longer be supported. This decision comes directly from the Supra manufacturer, who will discontinue support for their Bluetooth-based key boxes. As a result, the Norton Shores Fire Department will transition to the KnoxBox® Rapid Access System for all properties that require emergency access.

🔄 Why Are We Switching to Knox?

  • End-of-Life for Supra: Since Supra is retiring its product line, we must move to a new solution to ensure that emergency services always have reliable access.

  • No Battery Maintenance: Knox Boxes do not have internal batteries in the lid or the box itself. All power is provided by the fire department’s key, so you’ll never have to worry about purchasing a new box due to battery failure.

  • Enhanced Reliability: Knox is a trusted and widely used system that offers durability and streamlined access for first responders.

🛠 How to Make the Switch

To transition to the Knox system, please take the following steps before the December 31, 2026, deadline:

  1. Visit the Knox Website: www.knoxbox.com.

  2. Select Your Jurisdiction: Choose Michigan, then select “Norton Shores Fire Department” from the dropdown menu.

  3. Order Your Knox Box: You can either retrofit your existing Supra box if applicable or order a new Knox Box model that fits your property’s needs.

  4. Install and Verify: Once you receive your Knox Box, follow the installation instructions and register it with the Fire Prevention Bureau.

🚒 Ensure Continuous Safety and Compliance

By making this switch, you’re helping us ensure that emergency responders will always have the reliable access they need to protect your property and safety. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping Norton Shores safe and accessible for our first responders.
