Michael Kasher was appointed to the City Council on August 17, 2021 to fill a vacancy in Ward I until the next General Election in November. Council Member Kasher was elected to fulfill the remainder of the Ward I Council Member partial term expiring in November 2023. Council Member Kasher was born and raised in Norton Shores, graduated from Mona Shores Public Schools and joined the Norton Shores Police Department in 1991. Mr. Kasher held many different roles in law enforcement and retired from City as a Lieutenant in 2019. He continues to work in a field focused on community protection as the Assistant Director of Campus Safety at Hope College. His key areas of focus on the City Council are updating older areas of the City, retaining valuable employees and hiring diverse candidates to new positions.
Council Member Kasher and his wife Jamie raised their two children in Norton Shores and he was active in volunteering and coaching as his children grew up attending and graduating from Mona Shores. He continues to assist our Police Department annually with the Hunter Safety program and enjoys biking, running and working out as well as traveling or spending time at the beach in his free time.
