The following are the steps involved in the Department’s Police Officer selection process.
1. When the Department seeks to fill a vacancy, the Department will post the opening on some or all of the following: nortonshores.org, MCOLES, Facebook, etc. Acceptable candidates will be notified of the date, time, and location of the interview via phone, mail or email.
2. The initial oral interview will consist of a panel of Department personnel from various ranks. Candidates selected to continue in the process will be notified via phone, mail or email.
3. The candidate(s) selected to continue in the process will be subject to an intensive background investigation. Candidates may be disqualified for providing false information on their application, background questionnaire or during the interview process.
4. Successful candidates will be provided with a Conditional Offer of Employment, subject to the satisfactory completion of physical (including drug screening) and psychological evaluations.
5. Upon satisfactory completion, the Chief of Police will conduct a final interview and make a recommendation to the City Administrator for employment.
The selection process is anticipated to be completed four to eight weeks.
